Tokyo Shinjuku area was lucky not to suffer from the devastating Typhoon Hagibis and just the next day it was blessed with sunshine and stunning weather, so the annual supernatural cat BAKE NEKO FESTIVAL of KAGURAZAKA could be held so me & Mia went to see it! The tradition goes more than 10 years back and has to do with one of Japan’s most famous novels “I am a cat” by iconic author NATSUME SOSEKI!! Apparently that cat hero used to live in this very posh township full of French Restaurants and luxurious eateries!!!
Anyone can participate in this parade of cats, the only requirement is to wear anything Halloween style reminiscent of a cat!! Just cat makeup is enough, if you don’t want to invest in a stunning elaborate costume! The cats are “Obake” meaning Demon or ghost, so on the border of zombie and often wearing Japanese Kimonos and Samurai sword and outfits. Many Anime & Manga NEKO are here too. There are even a few REAL KITTIES dressed up for this occasion, not to mention doggies were also allowed!
In 2020 this parade will be held on 11th October, it is so much fun, you should totally drop by!!! http://bakeneko.oops.jp/
