My June trip to the CSX Selkirk and Mohawk subdivions was none like I had ever done before. I arrived in the Selkirk area at around 1pm on Friday June 17th, and with the exception of moving from Voorheesville towards Amsterdam, not miss a CSX train from then until our departure at 2pm the following day.

I rode up with CSXYN4 and we started our marathon with a hanful of trains in Voorheesville and Fullers Station. We opted to photograph Q112 in Cranesville near the QC 173 crossovers. Once it was time for Amtrak 64 we made moves over to the Amtrak station in Amsterdam, where we proceeded to meet up with CPManJoe and camp out from 6:30 pm to about 7:30 am.

Trains were plentiful during the night therefore sleep came at a premium. The longest break between trains during night hours was just 61 minutes. Once the sun rose, and we were joined briefly by 6000csx, traffic slowed to a grueling pace with only one freight between 8 and 10:30 am. It proved to be feast or famine the entire following day while we were out. After the drought we were greeted with 9 trains between 10:30am and 1pm, but the last train was an hour later at 2pm.

The outing was an overall success with a substantial amount of ethanol and crude oil traffic. Comparing to other 2016 outings the power assortment was satisfactory for our efforts.

Up next, some shortline action in New England.
